HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

I made my mother a rug from used t-shirts.  The rug is made all by hand braiding.  My mom liked a rug I made for my house, so I made her one. Her rug is an oval, and smaller.

This is the original, a circle.

I made this one by hand braiding strips of t-shirts and then zig zag sewing them together on the machine. It takes a lot of patience to sew. The colors are more distinct on this rug.
This is the close up of my mother's rug.  This one can be made all by hand, no sewing machine, but the colors end up being more blended. You can take this rug anywhere to sew and make. If anyone wants to know how to make this, I can add a tutorial.  Just let me know.

Testing Testing one two three :)  Here goes my adventures into the blogging world. It's going to be a slow and bumpy process.

POPCORN!!!
Yea!  Who doesn't like popcorn.  Here is my interpretation of a popcorn bikini and accessories.  It is all natural and completely edible.  The bathing suit is made just from popped corn and some good old white sewing thread.  My model is Marina from Viva Elvis Cirque show and the photographer is Aaron Felske.  Check his photography site at aaron felske.
HONEY NUT CHEERIOS :)
What are you wearing Caroline?  Nut' n Honey.  Another completely edible bikini.  Just cheerios and elastic string.  Yes I put stripes in it.  The jewelry is walnuts and chestnuts.  Both of these items were created for a runway show "Walk the Wardrobe 2011" put on by the Viva Elvis wardrobe department.  The category was edible.
FUTURISTIC TECH WEAR
Yes this is a picture of me......embarassing.  On to the clothing.  My interpretation of futuristic technical clothing that can be worn at work.  My inspiration came from the Laura Croft tomb raider look.  The entire outfit is made from upcycled black clothing.  The jumpsuit pant part is made from a XXX skirt. Repatterned of course.  The corset in the middle is made from black jeans.  The jumpsuit top is made from 3 different shirts. I wish the picture showed all the different textures better.  The outfit comes complete with safety pin holder. Sewing kit sleeve pocket. Leatherman clip holder and a sewing scissors leg holster.  Yes I have worn it to work since the show.  Course I made my futuristic outfit very functional.  Why wouldn't I?

Disclaimer
I know that some of you have seen these pictures before, but I had to start somewhere.  I'm just trying to show that "I am not just a box."  There are many sides to me. My goal for this blog is to share my ideas about sewing and other creative areas I dive into. I want to try to post weekly, so you don't get bored of looking at the same old things.

CAPTAIN MORONI
Ha Ha here he is in the flesh Captain Moroni...err my better half Nathan Box.  This is my one night interpretation of captain moroni.  Not my best work, but considering the quickness....I guess it passed.  The kids thought he was real, and that was all that mattered.  So here are my tips for this costume.  His shoes are actually women's shoes size 11, since strappy sandals were all the rage last year.  We spray painted the zebra stripes brown. His shield was a metal wall hanging that we punched holes in for the arm strap held on by brass buttons.  Next came the hat. It was a knights halloween hat with a facial guard. I cut that off, adorned it with a metal belt and plumes.  His wrist guards are part of an old leather coat cut up. The red tunic was a red sheet sewn in a rectangle.  I cut a hole for his head and left arm holes.  The cape and leather thing were part of an old halloween costume.  GOOOO CAPTAIN MORONI!!!
